(Juneau) - The Alaska State House of Representatives today passed a resolution creating a House Special Committee on Fiscal Policy. Promoting fiscal responsibility is the House Majority Caucus's top Guiding Principle for the 27th Alaska Legislature, and the special committee will allow members to further examine the best ways to invest the state's revenues to benefit Alaskans.

House Resolution 7, sponsored by the House Rules Committee, creates a bipartisan seven-member committee tasked with examining the state's current and future fiscal situation and make recommendations to ensure the state remains on sound financial footing.

"It is time for Alaskans to get serious about their government and engage in our fiscal process and help trim our budget and utilize every available resource," Rep. Anna Fairclough, R-Eagle River, the committee's chair, said. "The committee will provide a framework to slow state government growth to an affordable rate and continue to allow Alaska to be the envy of the majority of states."

Members named by House Speaker Mike Chenault, R-Nikiski, are: Rep. Fairclough, Chair; House Majority Leader Alan Austerman, R-Kodiak; Rep. Lance Pruitt, R-Anchorage; Rep. Tammie Wilson, R-North Pole; Rep. Bob Herron, D-Bethel; Rep. Mike Doogan, D-Anchorage; and, Rep. Chris Tuck, D-Anchorage. House Rules Chair Craig Johnson, R-Anchorage, will serve as an alternate.

The committee will meet before the end of this legislative session to organize.
