Proposed Railbelt Energy Projects Up For Comparison

(Juneau) - Representatives from six proposed major railbelt energy projects will appear before the House Special Committee on Energy on Thursday, March 11, to assist the committee in learning more about the projects and which one is best suited to meet the railbelt's energy needs.
Officials for the following energy projects are scheduled to appear:
Mt. Spurr Geothermal Facility Ormat
Coal Gasification and Fire Island Wind Farm CIRI
Susitna Hydroelectric Project Alaska Energy Authority
In-State Gas Pipeline Bob Swenson, In-State Natural Gas Pipeline Coordinator
Chakachamna Hydroelectric Project TDX Power
Committee Co-chairs Rep. Bryce Edgmon, D-Dillingham, and Rep. Charisse Millett, R-Anchorage, have prepared seven questions for each group to answer. The questions range from permitting and state financial support to how much proposed operation s would ultimately cost homeowners and businesses.
The meeting will begin with an overview of the Railbelt Integrated Resource Plan by Alaska Energy Authority staff.
