House Joint Resolution 27, sponsored by Resources Co-Chair Paul Seaton, R-Homer, is a vote of confidence towards the Coastal Villages Region Fund Community Development Quota, or CDQ, fishing fleet's plans to build home port facilities in Seward. "The Coastal Villages plan is about economic development, jobs and resources staying in Alaska instead of leaving every Summer and Fall for Washington," Seaton said. "The industry is a $2.5 billion per year endeavor and the CDQ group's share is expected to be $75 million. That, plus payroll, processing and shipping would be a tremendous economic shot in the arm for Seward and Southcentral Alaska."

The City of Seward has already paid for the preliminary engineering analysis, examining the improvements to docks and harbors, fill, and facilities that would have to be built in the community to support the fleet.

HJR 27 now moves to the Alaska Senate for consideration.
