(Juneau) - The Alaska State House of Representatives today passed a resolution calling for the creation of the Alaska Working Group on Interstate Energy Production to promote collaboration between states and better influence federal policy and legislation.

House Concurrent Resolution 9, sponsored by the Special Committee on Energy, mirrors measures in the works in other states to combat the negative consequences from delay or cancelation of economically-viable energy-related projects because federal law and enforcement too often overshoot constitutional authority.

“We hope to see a more unified voice from the states most affected by the consequences of energy-related federal law,” Co-Chair Lance Pruitt, R-Anchorage, said. “We would have a chance to help develop the policy for the new group and help set the direction on the coordinated effort to get the federal government back to only directly follow their constitutionally-granted authorities.”

The Working Group would consist of four members, with two senators appointed by the Senate President and two representatives by the House Speaker. They would meet through January of 2013.

HCR 9 now moves to the Alaska Senate for consideration.
