(Juneau) - The Alaska State House today passed House Bill 349, legislation proposing to allow the Statewide Suicide Prevention Council to conduct meetings and allow voting via teleconference. Representative Anna Fairclough, R-Eagle River, sponsored the bill.
HB 349 offers a ‘fix’ to allow attendees who are unable to attend in person, to continue providing their expertise on reducing suicide in Alaska.
Fairclough says the small statutory changes will allow the Council to satisfy quorum requirements and meet their mission and goals. “The last legislative audit showed that the Council had a history of attendees being unable to attend in person, due to its statewide scope,” Fairclough said. “HB 349 offers a ‘fix’ to allow this important group to continue providing their expertise on reducing suicide in Alaska.”
