Members Organize New Liberty Caucus
| 10 Members will highlight their focus on fiscal discipline, personal responsibility, limited government, family values, and free enterprise |
Posted: February 2, 2010 (Juneau) - A group of lawmakers in the Alaska State House of Representatives announced today that they have formed the Liberty Caucus to promote conservative principles in state government. The caucus' guiding principles are fiscal discipline, personal responsibility, constitutionally-limited government, respect for family values, and free enterprise.
The caucus hopes to provide a forum for improved communications and more effective representation of a new and growing conservative constituency in Alaska. House Finance Committee member Mike Kelly, R-Fairbanks, was asked to act as spokesman for the caucus pending officer elections after the group is up to speed.
The Liberty Caucus will review and discuss major legislation and consider taking caucus positions, along with working to establish two-way communications with interested constituents, among other activities. The caucus will ask questions such as: "Is this the government's business?" "Does this measure promote self-reliance?" "Is this responsible?" and "Does this make us safer?" when reviewing legislation and government activities.
